I asked my barber for a 'simple trim' and ended up with a whole new look
Last week, I went to my usual spot in the city for a quick haircut. I told the new guy, 'Just a little off the top and sides, please,' which I've said a hundred times. Well, he got really into it, and after about 20 minutes, I looked in the mirror and barely recognized myself. He said, 'I just felt inspired, man,' and gave me these sharp lines I've never had before. My wife laughed for a solid five minutes when I got home. It's not bad, but it's definitely not what I asked for. Has anyone else had a barber or stylist just completely go off script on them?

Oh man, the "I just felt inspired" line is a classic. I had a stylist do that once, gave me bangs out of nowhere. What worked for me was finding an old picture of my haircut on my phone and showing it before they even picked up the scissors. I just say, "This exact length, please," and point at the picture. It feels a little bossy, but it saves the surprise makeover.

That picture idea is a smart move. Did you ever go back to that same stylist after the surprise bangs, or was that the last time you let them near your hair?

My cousin swears by bringing a photo now, but she takes it a step further. She actually circles the exact part of the picture she wants copied and writes "NO CHANGES" on it in marker, lmao. It sounds intense but she hasn't had a bad cut in years.
