That cheap networking meetup in Tucson actually paid off
I almost didn't go to the $10 lunch mixer at Guadalajara Grill last month because I figured it'd be a waste of time. Ended up meeting a guy who runs a shipping brokerage that could save my company about $800 a month on freight. Anyone else find a solid connection at a meetup they almost skipped?

$800 a month is solid, no argument there, but I’ve wasted way more money and time on cheap events that just turned into bad sales pitches. Loganl22, I think the pattern works both ways - sometimes skipping the low effort stuff saves you from boring conversations and lets you find luck somewhere else.

Honestly, doesn't it feel like the stuff you almost skip ends up being the most worth it? I swear there's this pattern where the low effort/no expectation things turn into the best surprises. Like when you force yourself to go to a thing you're kind of dreading, your brain is already on the lookout for something good to make up for it. But if you're already hyped for something, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. That $800 a month is huge, man, and it came from tacos and a random conversation. Makes you wonder how many other good breaks we miss because we don't bother showing up.
