My pitch deck died at a Scottsdale mixer, now I bring paper notes
Last month I was at a networking event in Scottsdale and my laptop battery hit zero right as I went to show a potential client my portfolio. I stood there fumbling with a dead screen while he just smiled and said "no worries, happens to everyone." It killed the whole conversation, I could not recover the momentum. Now I print out 5 key slides on paper and carry them in a folder to every mixer. Has anyone else gone old school with physical materials after a tech fail?
Been there man. Learned the hard way to always carry a backup, but paper is honestly a solid move. Something about handing someone a real sheet they can hold makes the convo feel more personal than staring at a screen. I keep a small printed one pager in my bag now and it has saved me more than once when wifi or batteries gave out. People remember the guy who came prepared, not the one with the dead laptop.
