I used to think networking events were a waste of time, but the Phoenix Chamber mixer changed my mind

For two years I skipped every industry meetup because I figured it was just people handing out business cards and nothing real would come of it. Then a buddy dragged me to the Greater Phoenix Chamber mix at the Sheraton last March, and I ended up talking to a guy who runs a commercial cleaning company near Mesa. He gave me three solid referrals in the first month, and now I go to at least one event every quarter. Has anyone else had a similar turnaround on these things?

Oh man, 'wild how one good conversation can completely flip your whole view' - that's exactly what happened to my friend Sarah. She swore off networking for years, then ran into her old college roommate at some boring tech meetup and ended up getting hired through her a month later. Now she's the one dragging people to those things.
