My cousin found a weird stone tool while digging a fence post in Vermont
He was putting in a new fence line on his property near Burlington last month and his shovel hit something solid. It turned out to be a smooth, palm-sized piece of slate with one edge clearly worked into a sharp bevel. He sent a photo to the state archaeology office, and they confirmed it's likely a pre-contact era scraping tool. Has anyone else had a random find like that turn out to be something legit?

My uncle in Maine found a similar tool near his creek... I always thought he was just seeing shapes in rocks until I saw it up close.

Man, that is so cool. I'd probably be the one to find something like that and just assume it was a weird piece of a broken lawnmower. I'd toss it in the junk pile and only realize my mistake years later. It's wild to think how much history is just sitting right under our feet.
