TIL an old climber told me I was cutting my notches completely backwards
Guy I met at a workshop in Portland said my notch was too shallow on the backcut side. He showed me his way with a 45 degree angle and I stopped getting bar pinched after like 3 months of struggling. Anyone else get their whole technique flipped by an old timer?}

Wait, is this really that big of a deal? I mean, I've been cutting notches for years just eyeballing it and never had a bar pinch so bad I'd call it "struggling." A 45 degree angle sounds like one of those old wives' tales where guys act like their way is the only way, you know? I've seen guys notch with a straight 90 and be fine, then another guy swears by something else. Sounds like you just needed more practice with your saw, not a whole technique flip.

Never had bar pinch after 40 years of doing it wrong, so maybe you just needed an excuse to buy a new saw.
