Paid $450 for a bucket truck rental, it saved my back but gutted my profit margin
Bidding a big dead oak removal solo in Fort Worth sounded smart until I realized 3 days of ropes and climbs would wreck me, so I rented the truck for one day to speed the takedown, but the rental plus fuel ate 40% of what I charged the client, so was the faster job worth the thin payout or should I stick to climbing and keep the money?

Funny, I had the same math problem last fall with a pine that was leaning bad over a shed, and I figured the rental cost was just buying my body back for the next week of work. Yeah I made less on that one job, but I took three more bids that week without being sore, so the truck basically paid for itself in time I could actually work. Now I price rentals into the quote upfront instead of eating it after, and it feels way less painful when the bill comes due.
