Found a hidden hazard in a Bradford pear removal near Cincinnati last week

We were taking down a big one in a backyard, looked healthy from the ground. Started the climb and my saw hit something solid about 15 feet up... a rusted iron fence post the tree had grown around and swallowed. It was buried deep in the wood, no sign from the outside. Could have been real bad if the saw kicked. Anyone else run into trees hiding metal like that?

Ever find a whole car in a tree? I was chunking down a big oak once and my bar went straight into a steel cable. Looked like a regular limb from the ground. Scared me so bad I almost dropped my saw. That hidden fence post is no joke, glad you found it the hard way and not the really hard way.

How do people even get steel cable that high up? Sounds like someone had a real grudge against that tree. I hit a nail once that was hidden in a pine and it felt like the saw tried to jump out of my hands. Your story makes me think I got off easy.

Honestly though, how much damage does hitting a cable really do? I've hit some old wire fencing and it just nicked the chain. Makes a heck of a noise but the saw was fine.
