Three hours on a dryer that ended up being a $2 part
Last Tuesday I got a call about a dryer that would heat but stop after 10 minutes. I checked the thermostat, the heating element, even the vent with a scope. Three hours in, I took the blower wheel off and found a dime wedged in the sensor, not the thermal fuse. A $2 inspection fee for me, but it cost a customer their whole morning because I missed the obvious. Has anyone else burned time on a simple block that you only catch after taking everything apart?

...and that reminds me of the time I spent a whole afternoon on a washing machine that kept throwing an error code. Turns out a paperclip had fallen behind the control board and was shorting out two pins. I felt like a complete idiot, but at least I got a free paperclip out of the deal.
