Overheard a new tech say modern fridges are 'self-diagnosing' and laughed out loud

Was at a supply house on Tuesday near Houston and this kid fresh out of trade school said he barely needs a multimeter because newer fridges tell you what's wrong. I've been doing this 22 years and let me tell you, I replaced a main board on a Samsung last week that said it had a 'compressor fault' but it was actually a bad wire harness behind the evap fan. Has anyone else had a control board lie to them like that?

Oh man, that "compressor fault" thing is way too real. I had a GE fridge last month screaming about a sensor failure, turned out to be a corroded connector on the main harness. These boards will throw any code they want, they don't actually know what's broken half the time. Ever had one that said the evap fan was fine when the thing was sounding like a blender full of marbles?

Right, and of course the fridge will totally gaslight you too. Love when a machine gives you a confident "all good" while it's literally trying to take flight like a helicopter. It's like the board is just guessing and hoping you'll go away.
