Old timer at the supply house told me to always check the door switch first on a no-heat dryer call

Honestly, I thought he was just being lazy when he said that last year. Then I got a Kenmore 80 series in last week that wouldn't heat, and after checking the heating element and thermostat, I spent an hour on it. Tbh, it was the door switch the whole time, just like he said. Anyone else find one specific piece of advice that saves you a ton of time?

Remember that old timer's advice about the door switch? My buddy had a similar thing with a Whirlpool. He was sure it was the thermal fuse, but it was just the little plastic nub on the switch that pushes the button. It had worn down flat and wasn't making contact anymore.

Wait, wait, the plastic nub wore down flat? Ngl, that's both genius and kinda terrifying. So it just got shorter over time till it couldn't push the button anymore? I'm gonna start looking closer at those little pieces now, never thought they'd just... disappear.

That Kenmore 80 series story is a perfect example. What was the actual failure on the door switch? Was it just dirty contacts, or did the plastic actuator break?
