Found out the hard way that putting a Samsung fridge in defrost mode doesn't cancel the ice maker cycle
Last week I was trying to speed up a defrost on a Samsung RF28 and I hit the test mode button thinking it would pause everything. Instead the ice maker dumped a full batch of cubes right into the drain pan and clogged it up. Anyone else had that happen or know a trick to stop the ice maker mid-cycle?
Oh man, that's a rough lesson. I mean, I think there's actually a small misunderstanding here. The test mode on those Samsung fridges is really meant for service techs to run diagnostics, not to pause normal cycles. It'll just keep doing whatever the ice maker was already programmed to do, which is why it dumped the cubes. If you want to actually stop the ice maker mid-cycle, you gotta pull the ice bucket out and flip the little wire arm up or press the off button on the front panel. My RF28 has a little slider switch under the front cover too, but yours might be different. Hope that helps a bit.
So when you flipped that wire arm up or hit the off button, did it actually stop mid-drop, or did it still finish dumping whatever cubes were already in the chute? Because on mine, even after I press the off button, the auger keeps spinning for another 10 seconds and spits out like 3 or 4 more cubes into the bin. It's like there's a delay built in and no way to kill the power to the motor once it's started. Did you ever try just yanking the ice bucket out fast enough to break the circuit before the cycle finishes?
