My friend and I argued for two hours about whether the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion was actually good.
We spent the whole time going back and forth on the last two episodes versus The End of Evangelion movie, and I'm still not sure we convinced each other of anything, so what's your take on that whole debate?

Oh man, that's the classic argument, isn't it? I saw a video once that said the TV ending was the "inside" of Shinji's head and the movie was the "outside" wreckage. So which one is better, the therapy session or the total meltdown? Honestly, they're two halves of the same messed up coin. You can't really have one without the other, even if the movie feels more like a real ending.

It's like that with everything now. We get the cleaned-up social media version and the messy real life version. My cousin's wedding photos looked perfect online, but the actual day was a total stress-fest with family fighting. Both things are true at the same time. The pretty story and the messy truth exist together, just like those two endings.
