Heard a podcast clip that made me rethink filler episodes
I was listening to an interview with a former Toei writer last night and he said something about how filler arcs are actually used to test new animation techniques before they go into canon episodes. Made me wonder how many of those so-called skippable episodes we've been glossing over.

Binge-watched a whole filler arc last week thinking I was being productive, turns out I was just a Guinea pig for a new shading technique. Glad my lazy Sunday helped the animators test out some particle effects I guess. Kinda makes me feel better about all those episodes I skipped, now I know the good stuff got my attention for a reason. But seriously, if they were testing stuff on us, why couldn't they test making the filler actually interesting too?

Yeah my buddy actually let me borrow his hard drive full of old anime and I accidentally watched three episodes of some show that was literally just characters standing in a field watching clouds move. He told me later that season was famous for being the test run for digital grass animation. Guess I helped them figure out if wind direction on pixel blades looked right.
