Found a stat that 70% of all anime discussion threads devolve into waifu wars

I was digging through some MyAnimeList data from last month and saw that over 70% of threads with more than 50 replies end up as waifu debates. Does that mean proper plot discussion is dead, or is waifu talk just how we really bond?

Man, that stat hits way too close to home. I can't tell you how many threads I've been in where someone brings up a legit point about pacing or character development and then it just turns into "Your waifu is trash because she's not mine." It's exhausting. I think waifu talk is a lazy way to bond because it's easy and doesn't require deep thought about the actual story. But that doesn't mean good plot discussion is totally dead, just buried under memes and shipping wars. Is there any way to actually steer a thread back to serious talk without getting dogpiled?

Saw an article saying the best way is to ignore waifu bait and just start a new thread with a specific question about story beats, @xena_brown50.
