PSA: Just read the NFPA stats on fire alarm faults in older apartment buildings
I found out in a trade journal that over 40% of systems in structures built before 1990 have a critical sensor or wiring fault the owner doesn't know about, which is way higher than I thought.

Imagine paying premium rent for a place where the fire alarm might just give a sad little beep and call it a day. My building's from the 80s and the alarm panel looks like it runs on floppy disks. Honestly wouldn't be shocked if the smoke detector in the hall was just a painted soup can with a dead bug inside. Makes you feel real safe.

That floppy disk line is too real. My last place had a smoke detector that just... fell off the ceiling one day. Landlord tried to stick it back up with duct tape. You could see the battery was from like 2005. It's wild what they charge for places that are basically held together with wishful thinking.

Come on, that duct tape shows real effort. @henry_martinez, at least you have an alarm panel.
