That time I had a tool roll go missing at LAX taught me a hard lesson

I was working a line maintenance shift at LAX last spring and left my personal tool roll on a cart for maybe 5 minutes. Came back and it was gone, tools and all, probably close to $400 worth of stuff I'd collected over 6 years. Now I engrave my initials on every single socket and wrench I own, even the cheap ones. Has anyone else had a big theft at their hangar and found a way to trust people again?

I mean it sucks but honestly I think engraving things is a good move, a buddy of mine put a tiny GPS tracker in his toolbox after getting cleaned out and actually caught the guy a week later.

Oh man that's genius! I gotta step my game up. I had a guy steal my whole tool bag once and I was just so mad I started engraving my social security number on everything. Probably not the smartest move looking back but hey nobody's trying to fake their identity with a stolen circular saw right? GPS trackers are the way to go now though, I'm definitely gonna look into that.

Three years ago I wrote my phone number on all my power tools with a sharpie. Someone still stole my circular saw from the jobsite and I got a text at 2am from a guy asking if it was his now. Told him he could keep it if he bought me a new one. @taylor_hayes25 your buddy is way more prepared than me on that one.
