Our town's little air museum let me run a hands-on session for the first time

Seeing a dozen people finally get why we torque bolts in a specific pattern felt pretty great.

Glad to hear the session went well! One small thing from my experience, the torque pattern isn't just a neat trick. It's really about making sure the load gets shared evenly across the whole part. If you just crank bolts down in order, you can actually bend or warp the material. That uneven stress might not show up until later, causing leaks or cracks. Getting people to see that it's a prevention step, not just a rule, is huge for understanding.

My first car's head gasket blew from uneven torque.

Exactly, and that's why it's such a foundational skill. You see the same principle in so many things, from putting together furniture to industrial assembly. It's all about avoiding stress points you can't even see yet.
