Heard my niece say air fryers are 'just tiny convection ovens' and it got me thinking
She's not wrong technically, but man, it's not the same. I remember getting my first air fryer back in 2018 and feeling like I'd discovered some secret cooking hack. Before that, I was using a full-size convection oven to make frozen fries and they always came out uneven. The air fryer just crisps things faster and with less energy. Sure, the tech is basically the same, but the convenience and speed changed how I actually cook on weeknights. Has anyone else gone back to a regular oven after using an air fryer for a while?

Honestly, have you tried making fries in both back to back and noticed a real difference?

Agreed 100%. I did a back-to-back test last week with the same batch of potatoes and it was honestly night and day. The ones I did the first way came out pale and a little soggy no matter how long I left them in. The second batch with the extra step came out super crispy and stayed crunchy even after they cooled down a bit. I couldn't believe the difference, it was like two completely different recipes. Have you done a side-by-side like that or just tried them separately?
