TIL the hard way that my car's oil change sticker was lying by 2,000 miles
I was pulling into my driveway last Tuesday in Arlington when my engine started knocking like a woodpecker. Turned out the shop I'd been going to for 3 years put a 5,000 mile sticker on my car, but the manual says 3,000 miles. Had to shell out $400 for a mechanic to flush it out before it seized completely. Anyone else ever catch a shop doing shady sticker math like that?

Wrote the mileage on a sticky note and put it inside my gas cap flap. Can't lose it, always see it when I fill up. Haven't had a problem since.

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen with a quick lube place in Dallas. His sticker said 5k but he caught it when his check engine light came on at 4k and the dipstick was basically dry. Now he writes the date and mileage on a scrap of paper and tapes it under his hood just in case.
