Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say 'adulting is just doing what you don't want to' and I think that's lazy thinking

I was grabbing a latte near downtown Austin last Tuesday and this dude in his 30s said adulting is just forcing yourself to do stuff you hate, like it's some kind of punishment. But I've been handling my own bills, fixing my leaky faucet (after 3 YouTube videos), and still finding time to hang out with friends, and none of that feels like suffering to me. Don't you think we sell adulting short by acting like it's only about the grind?

My neighbor once spent 4 hours building a custom shelf he didn't need for no reason.

@davis.noah sounds like your neighbor just needed an excuse to use his new power tools. Nothing wrong with a shelf that holds nothing but satisfaction. He probably triple checked the level on that thing too.
