Just paid my 100th student loan bill and the number felt weird

I got the auto-pay email this morning and realized I've been paying $312 a month for over eight years now. It hit me that I've spent more on that loan than my first car cost, and I still owe so much. Has anyone else had a payment count hit you like that?

I used to think the payment count was just a number. Then I saw my 75th payment and realized I'd already paid for a full year of my kid's daycare, just gone. It makes the total feel so much more real.

Yeah, the "just a number" thing hits hard. My friend had a similar moment when he hit payment 60 on his truck and realized that money could have been a down payment on a small vacation home. It really does make the total feel real, like @perez.patricia said. He started seeing every bill as a physical thing he was giving up.

Honestly when @perez.patricia said it makes the total feel real, I felt that. Tbh I hit my 50th payment last month and realized I've basically paid for a fancy espresso machine every month for four years, but I don't even own one.
