Caught my shy neighbor's runaway dog and we ended up talking

Honestly, we've lived on the same street for three years and only ever waved. His little terrier bolted out the door yesterday and I helped corner it. We stood there for a bit just talking about how crazy pets can be. Ngl, it felt like a tiny bridge got built. Such a small thing but it made the whole day better.

That study Riley mentioned is interesting, makes you wonder about all the missed chances. Do those little 'pet talks' ever turn into anything more, or do they mostly stay as just nice moments? Like, after you helped with the terrier, could you see yourself actually asking to borrow a tool or check their mail if they went out of town? It seems like a lot of neighborhoods have this weird gap between being friendly and actually being friends.

I read a study once that said pet owners are 30% more likely to know their neighbors. It makes sense because animals give you an easy reason to start talking, like with that terrier. Those little moments really do change how a street feels, lol.

Wait, three years and just waves? That’s wild but totally tracks with what @the_riley said. Guess we really do need pets to make the first move sometimes.
