Pro tip: Swamp cooler timing saved me money on water
I always thought running my swamp cooler all day was the only way to keep cool here. But I learned that turning it off at night and using fans instead uses way less water. My last bill was about 15 bucks lower just from that change. Now I only run the cooler from 1 to 7 PM when it's hottest.

Setting mine on a timer made a huge difference too. I only run it from noon until around 8 pm when the humidity drops. The house stays cool enough overnight with the windows open and a ceiling fan on. It cuts way back on how often I have to fill the water tank. My electric bill went down a bit as well, which was a nice bonus.

Seriously? I get using a timer, but is the electric savings really that big? Swamp coolers are pretty cheap to run already, so cutting a few hours seems like small change. The water part makes sense, I guess, but the bill difference... gotta be minimal.

My buddy tried that and saw his bill drop, right?
