I used to think gutter guards were a scam but after cleaning my neighbor's clogged gutters for the 3rd time this spring I bought a set for $150

What convinced me was watching a 20 minute youtube video from a guy in Santa Fe who showed the mesh stopping pine needles during a monsoon and now I'm wondering if anyone here has tried the stainless steel ones vs the plastic kind.

Honestly that sums up how YouTube became the new word of mouth.

Man, I feel this in my bones. I put off buying gutter guards for years because I thought they were just another thing to break and I'm already bad at remembering to change my furnace filter. Bought the cheap plastic ones from a big box store and within a month a squirrel had ripped a corner off trying to build a nest in there. The stainless ones are pricier but my gutters look like a museum exhibit now, totally dry and empty even after a freak hailstorm last June.

Used to think they were a total waste of money, figured water would just find a way around anything you put up there. Then my neighbor spent a whole Saturday on a ladder with a trowel and a hose, cursing up a storm, while I watched that same Santa Fe video you're talking about. The part where he pours a bucket of water on the mesh and it just sheets off clean made me a believer. I got the stainless kind because I have a ton of oak leaves and the plastic ones looked too flimsy for that weight. They've been up for two seasons now and my gutters stay empty, even after a big storm.
