Went back to the old Sunrise Mall with a real camera instead of my phone

Last week I finally brought my dad's old DSLR to the Sunrise Mall ruins, and the photos from that trip compared to my phone snaps from last year are night and day (you can actually see the peeling paint on the old Orange Julius sign). Having the right tool let me capture the quiet feeling of the place way better, instead of just getting a dark, grainy shot of a broken fountain. Has anyone else had a trip totally changed by bringing different gear?

Took my grandpa's old Polaroid to the state fair last fall. Suddenly I wasn't just taking a picture of the Ferris wheel lights, I was waiting for the right moment because I only had ten shots. That weird little square developing in my hand felt more real than a hundred phone pics. Makes you pick your subject with care, you know? The whole day slowed way down.

I mean idk, waiting for film just sounds like missing the actual moment to me. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather have all my phone pics than ten blurry squares.

My buddy took his film camera to the old drive in on Route 9. The whole vibe of the trip shifted, just slowing down to set up each shot. It really does force you to see a place differently.
