Found a 1974 lease agreement inside an old mall wall
Last month I was poking around the dead Cedar Hills Mall in Iowa and pulled back some drywall in a back corridor. Tucked behind it was a crumpled lease agreement from 1974, signed by the original candy shop tenant. It listed rent at $350 a month, which blew my mind since that mall probably had 40 stores back then. Did anyone else find old paperwork or records stashed in a spot like that, and what was the wildest detail in it?

The $350 a month thing got me, but honestly the wildest part is that someone thought to hide it in a wall at all. My buddy Rick found something similar once, not in a mall but in an old gas station he was tearing down for a renovation. He pulled out a crate from behind a fuse box and it had a stack of repair logs from the 60s, plus a half-eaten pack of gum that somehow still had flavor. The best part was a note from the owner to his night guy, telling him to stop using the bathroom sink to change oil or he'd dock his pay. Rick still has that note framed in his garage, and it cracks me up every time I see it. People really used to stash the most random stuff in walls, like they thought nobody would ever find it.
