Appreciation post: I just realized I've documented over 50 different abandoned malls across the Midwest.

Some people think hitting a number like that means you're dedicated to preserving history, while others say it just proves you're obsessed with decay, so what's your take on when documenting becomes more about the count than the experience?

Count matters when you stop looking up. Got into this because each place felt different. The quiet in a dead food court, the way light hits broken skylights. You chase that feeling. Then you notice your map pins and it becomes a game. The magic fades when you're just checking boxes. Seen it in other hobbies too. The number is just proof you showed up, not what you felt.

My buddy hit 30 malls and then spent a whole trip just sitting in one empty anchor store. Said the count didn't matter after that.

The count just measures your own decay.
