Mixed up two VPs at a company event and my recovery trick

I accidentally congratulated the wrong VP on a promotion during a happy hour, it was so cringe lmao. Instead of panicking, I just owned it and said 'my bad, let me buy you a drink to make up for it'. Turns out, being upfront about a slip-up can actually build rapport. Now I keep a mental note of key people before social stuff, saves a lot of stress.

Man, a buddy of mine did something similar at a work dinner. He completely blanked on a director's name and just said "hey you" with a laugh. They ended up joking about it all night.
