Just learned that a single AAA battery has enough energy to power a TV remote for 2 years but we toss them after 6 months

I was reading some random article about battery recycling and saw that stat. It blew my mind. I probably replace my remote batteries every 6 months even when they still work okay. Anyone else guilty of this?

You know, I used to be the same way honestly. I always figured if the remote felt slow, the batteries were dying. But after reading that article, I actually tested this with a voltmeter on some old AAAs I'd thrown in a drawer. Half of them still showed like 1.3 volts, which is plenty for a remote. Now I just wipe the contacts with a dry cloth and they work fine for another few months. It's crazy how much waste we create for no reason.

Right? It's like the battery manufacturers know we're all just lazy and anxious. I always swap mine out the second the remote gets a little sluggish, even if it's just the button contacts being dirty. Those AAA's are probably sitting in a landfill somewhere with half their juice still in them, laughing at me.

I mean, is a slightly sluggish remote really that big of a deal though?
