My uncle's 'just pour it down the sink' fix ruined my garbage disposal

Uncle Dave told me to pour hot grease down the sink with cold water running, said it 'solidifies and just churns through.' Did that after a brisket last Tuesday. Two days later the disposal jammed so bad the motor burned out. Cost me $215 for a plumber to pull out a greasy sludge ball and replace the unit. Has anyone else been fed a 'simple fix' by a relative that backfired way harder than expected?

Buddy did the same thing with bacon grease, fried his motor too.
