That $45 'premium' leash snapped on a dachshund, my regular $12 one never did

Last Tuesday a client's mini weiner dog made one sharp lunge after a squirrel and the fancy braided leash broke clean in half, so I grabbed my old nylon backup and now I'm wondering if the marketing upcharge is just paying for the word 'premium' on the tag, has anyone else had cheap gear outlast the expensive stuff?

Man, that is wild. Was it one of those braided ones that looks all fancy but is really just thin rope inside a pretty cover? I had a "tactical" leash with metal clips that rusted out in three months. The damn thing cost twice as much as the plain cotton one that's still holding up fine. So did the break happen right at the hook, or was it the main body of the leash that gave out? That'll tell you if the hardware or the webbing is the weak link.
