My old self would have missed that fine print completely. Now I read every line like it's a legal thriller, and I'm always the sucker in the first chapter. Guess that's the price of wisdom, paid in time and paranoia.

Yikes, that's a sneaky hidden cost. Basically turns every gear upgrade into a two part price tag, the new thing plus the old fine. Makes the math way less fun.
