Appreciation post: My uncle's diner in Akron served me a hot dog with peanut butter in 1998 and I've preferred it that way ever since.

He ran out of ketchup and mustard during a busy lunch rush, so he spread some Jif on a bun as a joke, but the salty-sweet mix with the grilled dog just worked for me.

Oh man, that's awesome! I totally get it. My dad used to make us peanut butter and bologna sandwiches when I was a kid, which sounds gross but it's the same idea. The creamy peanut butter with the salty meat just hits different. I still make one for myself sometimes when I'm feeling nostalgic. Your uncle was onto something for sure.

Remember how people put peanut butter on burgers now? It's that same weird magic. The fat in the peanut butter coats your mouth and then the salty bologna cuts right through it. Makes me wonder what other weird combos we're sleeping on. Maybe cream cheese and ham, or apple butter with sharp cheddar. Our dads were just ahead of the curve.

Wait, peanut butter and bologna, @tessa_murray? That's a wild combo I've never even heard of. I guess the sweet and salty thing makes sense, but my brain just can't picture it. Your dad must have been a real sandwich rebel.
