Setting posts after heavy rain made me try something new

The ground was soaked on a job yesterday, and my usual digger just sank... I ended up using a manual auger with wider blades, and it gripped way better in the mud. What's your move when the soil is too wet?

Honestly, your manual auger move reminded me of a tip I read about using wider blades in soggy ground.

Argue with that tip a bit, @viola_park. I mean, wider blades just gum up worse in real muck, in my experience. You get more surface area to stick and it becomes a huge pain to clean. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've had way better luck with a standard blade and just working in short, quick pulls. The soggy ground needs you to break the suction over and over. A wider blade can't do that as easy in thick clay.

Reading that wider blade tip actually shocked me. After @the_nora talked about it gumming up, I'm surprised anyone suggests it. My cousin tried a wide blade in wet clay last spring and it got stuck solid. He ended up yanking it out with a chain hooked to his truck.
