I was stuck on a skirt design for a month until I tried a weird fabric trick
I was trying to make a circle skirt with this beautiful but super slippery silk I bought in Seattle, and the hem was a total mess every time I tried to sew it. After three failed attempts, I saw a video where someone used a strip of tissue paper under the fabric while sewing. I tried it with a roll of plain gift wrap tissue, and it worked perfectly! The fabric didn't slip at all, and I got a clean, even hem on the first try. It felt like a magic trick. Has anyone else found a simple household item that saved a tricky sewing project?

I read somewhere that a small spray bottle with water and a little cornstarch can work for slippery fabrics too, kind of like a cheap temporary stiffener. Did the tissue paper leave any little bits stuck in your stitches?

My friend had the same problem with a chiffon dress. She ended up using a little bit of hairspray on the seams to stop the fabric from sliding around. Worked like a charm, right?
