Tried the cheaper rasp from the farm supply store, never going back to my old brand
I finally tested that $20 rasp I've been eyeing up at Tractor Supply. Figured it would be garbage like most budget tools. But honestly, it cut through a mean quarter crack on a draft cross way smoother than my $60 one from the catalog. Needed way less filing to get the shape I wanted. Maybe I just got lucky with this batch? Has anyone else had a cheap tool surprise them like this?

Hell yeah, same thing happened to me. Picked up a cheap rasp on a whim and it just... worked better. Felt like it bit into the hoof cleaner. No idea why but I'm not complaining.

Wipe it dry after each use, stops that weird rust buildup.

Oh man, that's exactly it. I've got a drawer full of expensive tools that look all sharp and fancy, and then there's this beat-up old rasp that I got for like ten bucks. It's got more rust than teeth but it just... works. I swear the thing has some kind of weird mojo going on. Probably just me being cheap and sentimental, but hey, I'll take the win wherever I can get it.
