Tried using a rubber band to keep my phone charger from falling behind the nightstand

I looped a thick band around the charger plug and the leg of my nightstand to hold it in place. It worked for about two nights before the band snapped and the plug shot across the room. The metal prongs scratched a deep line in my hardwood floor. Has anyone found a better way to deal with this without damaging furniture?

Used to think those rubber bands were a genius hack but you guys just convinced me these things are basically hidden weapons. Never had one snap before but I'm definitely not rolling the dice now that I know they can scratch floors and dent walls. Sticking with a plain old heavy book holding my charger in place from now on.

Oh man, I tried that once and the band launched my charger like a slingshot. Left a dent in the wall I still have to explain to guests.

My old laptop charger took out a coffee mug from ten feet away. Those things have some serious power when they go flying.
