Overheard my neighbor crying about her credit card debt at the mailboxes

She was on the phone saying she owes over $8,000 and can't see a way out. It was just a short talk, but it hit me hard because she always seems so put together. I realized we never really talk about money stress with friends, even when it's crushing us. Has anyone else had a moment like that, where you saw someone's private struggle and it changed how you see things?

Honestly, it's all just a front. Tbh we're all one bad day from falling apart.

Yeah... it's wild what people carry. We all have that one thing we're scared to talk about. Makes you wonder who else is just holding it together.

The thing that gets me is how we treat debt like a personal failure instead of just... life happening. $8,000 is a lot but in the grand scheme it's not even that crazy when you think about what things cost now. Like my cousin had to put a new furnace on her credit card last winter and that was $6,000 right there, plus she had a leaky roof the year before. Nobody plans to fall behind, it just stacks up quiet until one day you're crying at the mailbox.
