I was using way too much pressure during my facial massage for years

A new client in Seattle last week told me her face felt sore after our session, which never happens. I watched my hands in the mirror and saw I was pushing down hard without even knowing it. How do you guys check your own pressure when you're working alone?

Ever try to squeeze a lemon like it owes you money? That's probably what my face massage looked like before I caught myself. I started testing pressure on my own arm first, like a weird handshake with myself. If it leaves a red mark on my arm, my face is gonna hate me. Now I pretend I'm touching a really ripe peach, just enough to feel it but not make a mess.

My old football coach used to say "touch the jersey, don't crush the player," which works for faces too. I like charlienelson's peach idea, that's way better than my old method.

The peach trick really changes how you think about pressure... Makes you slow down and be gentle. Soft hands beat hard hands every time in my book.
