Found out my hydrafacial machine was growing mold inside the handpiece
I opened it up after a weird smell during a treatment on Tuesday and found black gunk in the tubing where the manufacturer says it self-sanitizes, has anyone else found this hidden issue in their equipment?

Oh man, that's nasty. I get why you're freaked out, finding black gunk where it's supposed to clean itself is just wrong. You trust this stuff to be clean for your clients and then this happens. It's not like you're being careless either, the manufacturer literally says it's self-sanitizing so you think you're good. I'd be pissed off too if I dropped that kind of cash on a machine and found mold hiding in the tubing. Hope you get some answers from the company because that's a serious safety issue.

Does anyone else feel like this is just another example of how "automatic" features in products kind of let the manufacturer off the hook? @paulschmidt is right to be worried, because you pay extra for that guarantee and then it's a total lie.

Hold up, I'm not totally convinced this is that big of a deal. You see these "self-cleaning" claims on everything from coffee makers to air fryers now, and half the time it's just marketing fluff. A little black gunk in the tubing isn't great, but it's probably just a mineral buildup or some harmless mold that a quick vinegar soak would fix. I'd be more worried about the price tag than a spot of grime, honestly. People freak out over every little thing when most of the time a simple cleaning routine takes care of it. Let's be real, if you're relying on a machine to be 100% spotless without any effort, that's on you a bit.
