At a wedding, I got quizzed on elevator accidents for an hour
I was at my cousin's wedding last weekend. Someone found out I fix elevators and wouldn't stop asking about worst-case scenarios. I just wanted to enjoy the cake, not describe emergency brake systems. It's funny how people think our job is all about dramatic rescues. Now I dread telling anyone what I do at parties.

People always want the movie version of your job, not the real one.

Show them the boring parts upfront. It filters out the dreamers fast.

Wouldn't you rather they ask you than believe scary myths they read online? At least you can set the record straight on how safe elevators really are. I bet half those worst case scenarios they imagine never happen in real life. Sometimes people just want to understand the world around them, and your job is a part of that.
