Remember when we used to desolder with braid and a iron?

I started doing board repair back in 2008 and it was all braid and a Weller station. Took forever to clean up thru-hole joints on old console boards. Now I got one of those cheap hot air rework stations from Amazon for like 60 bucks. It changed everything for me, especially on those tight multi-layer boards. Anyone else make the switch later than they should have?

60 bucks for a hot air station? That's wild. I remember paying like 200 for my first one used back in 2012 and thinking I got a steal.

I've been using one of those cheaper 60 dollar stations for about three years now and it gets the job done just fine for hobby work, paul346. Might not last as long as the pricier ones, but you can buy three for what you paid back in 2012.

Yeah @paul346 I heard some folks saying those cheap rework stations are actually decent now, just depends on the brand luck.
