Had to choose between a 10-foot sheet or two 8-footers for a weird angled ceiling in Portland

The client's attic remodel had this sloped section that was exactly 9 feet 7 inches. My buddy Steve said to just cut a 10-footer and be done, but I was worried about the bend and the weight. I went with the two 8-foot sheets and a butt joint, which seemed smarter. Of course, that meant taping a seam right on the steepest part of the ceiling, and let me tell you, my neck is STILL sore from that. Anyone have a better method for a situation like that?

We used a panel lifter, saved my neck.

Panel lifters are a game changer for long term shoulder health too. The constant reaching and holding heavy sheets overhead wrecks your rotator cuff over time. Having that tool take the weight lets your joints last way longer in this trade.

Watched a guy on our crew blow out his back trying to muscle a sheet up alone. After that, we made it a rule. The lifter gets the heavy stuff every time, no debate. It's not just about saving your neck for a day, it's about being able to move without pain when you're fifty. That tool pays for itself by keeping you on the job.
