Hit a water pipe with a nail gun putting up shelving in the garage yesterday

I was hanging some heavy duty shelves in my garage last Saturday morning. Thought I checked for pipes with a stud finder but missed a small copper line running through the wall. Nail went right through it and water started spraying everywhere. Had to shut off the main valve to the whole house fast. Spent the next 4 hours cutting out drywall and soldering in a new section of pipe. Took me two tries to get the solder joint to stop dripping too. Now I got a 2 foot square hole in my drywall to patch this weekend. Anyone else ever put a nail through a pipe and got a quick lesson in plumbing?

My buddy Mike did that in his kitchen and flooded the cabinets below.

Honestly @jakeb25 I used to think those countertop water filters were totally fine and safe... I figured if they were sold in stores they must work right? But hearing about your buddy Mike's kitchen flood totally changed my mind. All it takes is one leaky connection and suddenly you've got water damage that costs way more than the filter did. I never really thought about the pressure issues or how those fittings can just fail over time. Makes me wonder how many people are just one bad seal away from the same thing happening to them.
