Turned my basement into an indoor slip-n-slide after forgetting to tighten a garden hose fitting on the utility sink
I was just trying to water the houseplants in the dark corner last Saturday and next thing I know there's two inches of water creeping toward the furnace, so I spent twenty minutes with a shop vac and a towel dam swearing at a $3 brass connector, has anyone else had a minor plumbing oops turn into a whole afternoon project?

I read somewhere that one loose connection can dump 200 gallons an hour, so you probably got off easy honestly.

Oh I've heard that number thrown around too and I'm not sure I buy it. 200 gallons an hour is like having a small garden hose running full blast inside your house. Most pinhole leaks or loose connections I've seen drip maybe a cup or two an hour, not that much. Unless you've got a main line pressure situation and the fitting is completely popped off, I think that stat gets exaggerated to scare people into calling plumbers right away.
