My neighbor insisted I use wax ring spacers on my toilet flange
Old guy next door told me I was crazy for not using spacers when I replaced my toilet last Saturday. Ended up with a slow leak that cost me $50 in water damage to the subfloor before I caught it. Anyone else had bad luck with those things?

Had a buddy who ignored that advice and his toilet rocked for months before he finally took it apart. Said the spacer just made everything worse and he swears he'll never use one again.

Oh man, that's exactly what happened to me! I tried one of those wax-free spacers a few years back and it was a nightmare. My toilet wobbled like a loose tooth and the seal leaked within a month. Took the whole thing apart, threw the spacer in the trash, and went back to the old wax ring. Never had a problem since.
