My favorite coworking space just added a strict dress code, and I'm out.
Who wants to work remotely if you can't wear shorts? This isn't freedom, it's another cage!

Last year, the Cove spot downtown added a 'business casual' rule. I showed up in my usual jeans and a t-shirt, and they handed me a blazer from a lost and found box. It was so AWKWARD and totally killed the relaxed vibe. Now I work from my porch because I can wear whatever I want. That dress code thing is just corporate nonsense creeping into our spaces. They forget why we left offices in the first place.

Totally get calling it "another cage." (Working in pajamas is my kind of dress code).

The pajama dress code thing is exactly right. It sounds small but when a place makes a rule about what you wear, it changes the whole feel. It stops being a spot where you can just work and turns into a place with invisible rules. That blazer story sums it up, it's about control and a certain image. They want the look of a busy office without understanding why people left. It really does become another kind of cage, just with a more casual name.
