Talked to a kid at the fuel pump, made me rethink my tuning setup

Ran into a college kid at the Love's in Amarillo last week. He was running a stock 7.3 with just a clean fuel system and a basic chip. I told him about my stacked tuners and he just said, "why not get one good one and learn it?" Honestly, that hit different. I spent 300 bucks over three years on budget boxes, never really dialing anything in. Now I'm selling two of them and going to a single custom tune. Anyone else ever simplify their setup and got better results?

Different strokes for different folks, but I gotta say, stacking has its place. There's something about having a backup box that saves your butt when one decides to act up at the worst time, like on a long haul. Plus, I've learned more about how my truck actually runs by messing with two boxes and seeing where they fight each other versus where they work together. That kid's advice sounds clean and simple, and sure, a single custom tune is easier to wrap your head around, but it also puts all your eggs in one basket. I tried the one-and-done route and ended up missing the fine-tuning ability to adjust on the fly for different loads and grades. Budget boxes taught me the basics, and my current setup is way more predictable because I messed up enough to know what not to do.
