The dinner where the waiter knew I was getting dumped before I did

Was at this Italian place in Austin last month, the one with the red checkered tablecloths. She ordered the most expensive thing on the menu and then went quiet for 10 minutes. The waiter brought dessert menus and she waved him off without looking at me. I asked her what was up and she said 'I think we're in different chapters.' The whole restaurant seemed to stop. I paid the $78 tab and walked her to her car. She didn't even say sorry. I just stood there on the curb watching her drive away. Has anyone else had a date where the person you're with clearly checked out before you even got the check?

Happened to me at a Thai spot in Denver, same vibe. She ordered the priciest curry and barely touched it. I just kept eating, paid the bill, said 'cool, take care of yourself' and left before she could get another word in.

And honestly I think that's the right move most of the time. If you sit there arguing with someone over a bill or a barely eaten meal, you're just giving them more attention. I paid for a dinner once where the girl complained about everything from the lighting to the bread being too hard. I just said "hope you find what you're looking for" and walked out while she was mid-sentence. No drama, no back and forth. Just a clean exit. She texted me later mad I didn't give her a chance to explain, but really, what was there to explain?
